Lady Teacher Accused of having sex with 17-year-old member of the school’s football team.
LENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. — An Elizabeth High School teacher now faces additional charges following an alleged sexual encounter with a 17-year-old member of the school’s football team. Prosecutors said they have filed two additional counts against Darcie Esson, 33, of Parker. She had been accused of felony sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust. She now faces two such counts, plus one count of sexual assault with a pattern of abuse.
Ninth Judicial District Attorney Martin Beeson would not discuss the reasons for the additional charges, other than to say they came from “further information” uncovered last Friday.According to an arrest affidavit obtained by 7News, Esson was in a Glenwood Springs hotel room when the incident allegedly occurred last November. The high school football team was staying there after playing Rifle High School in a playoff game. The teacher was accompanying the team on the trip, along with her 4- and 8-year-old children, having finalized her divorce the day before, the affidavit alleged. Esson had no official role in the team’s trip. The football player snuck out of a hotel he and the team were staying in and went to Esson’s room in a nearby hotel, according to the affidavit.
Investigators allege the two had sex on the floor while Esson’s children and a baby sitter slept in the same room. A preliminary hearing set for Thursday afternoon was continued until June 19.Elizabeth High School is located in Elizabeth, Colo., southeast of Denver and about 140 miles east of Glenwood Springs.
